Live music review: White Denim are ready to be Austin's next big thing

Austin writers have a penchant for prematurely announcing the "next big thing" in regards to local bands, however, there is nothing premature in claiming White Denim is an act that is going places. We knew it from the first time we saw the band several years ago at the old Emo's downtown. Last Thursday the band displayed a maturity in their live performance at Stubb's BBQ that indicated theJames Petralli-led group has already jumped from buzz act to national recognition. The jammy, psych-rock infused set the foursome played featured almost no... Continue reading at Examiner.com

10 SXSW 2014 breakout bands to watch

Quiet Company

South by Southwest (SXSW) closed with a bang Saturday despite drizzly weather that put a damper on outdoor shows during the day. We saw sets by Snoop DoggGary Numan and Phantogram among others. Snoop was fun. Gary Numan could teach a few young artists a thing or two about stage presence. Phantogram (sounds like a start-up app) were good too. But what we are really excited about are the breakout bands we saw perform for the first time during the festival; Desert NoisesJuly TalkFuture IslandsBearcubbinLucius and Lucas Nelson and the Promise of the Real. Our list includes top tier Austin bands... Continue reading at Examiner.com

Officially the South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) began yesterday, but March 10 (often called overlap day) featured day parties stocked with bands and booze. Monday was also the first Jimmy Kimmel Live taping at the Long Center with Austin's own White Denim. Yesterday we hung at the Spotify House for Jungle and Future Islands then beat it over to the Fader Fort preview with Charli XCX and Chromeo. Tuesday evening ended at the Sailor Jerry House where surprise guest... Continue reading at Examiner.com

The first weekend of Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival wrapped up Sunday with beautiful weather. The cold front that moved in Friday evening kept the high temperature below 85 degrees and brought drier air to Austin. For the first time in several years it did not rain during the event. The conditions meant it was comfortable for music fans and Examiner who witnessed sets byAtoms for PeaceTame ImpalaWhite Denim... Continue reading at Examiner.com

Weekend music preview: Calm Blue Sea | Boxing Lesson | White Denim | BB King

After spending most of last week out of town (and feeling a bit left out) it seemed appropriate to pen another weekend preview with all the great live music on tap in Austin. There is an exceptional double-bill, The Boxing Lesson and The Calm Blue Sea on Friday. Saturday our favorite local, progessive, rock band, White Denim is performing and Kebabalious is picking up the tab. Possibly the most famous blues guitarist alive, B.B. King will grace the ACL Live Moody Theater stage Sunday. Even a novice music fan could accidentally stumble upon a great show in the "Live Music Capitol" over the next few days.

Live music review: WFF 2 | Octopus Project | White Denim | Fresh Millionz

Nostalgia hit us rather hard last weekend as we watch a spate of great Austin bands shuffle through Emo's outdoor stage at Wild Frontier Fest 2 (WFF 2) including The Octopus Project, White Denim, Fresh Millions, The Calm Blue Sea and tons more. The reason for the yester-year longing, is the grand opening of Emo's East and the iminent demise of the quirky and venerable Emo's outdoor stage at the original location downtown
