SXSW live music review: Perez Hilton, Built to Spill, The Cult, Mumford and Sons

When SXSW began announcing the 2012 bands invited to play last month, we noticed Built to Spill had scheduled a ton of festival performances which made us grin ear-to-ear. We also saw an eclectic line-up at the Austin Music Hall for Perez Hilton's One Night in Austin, met We Were Promised Jet Packs, saw The Cult at Waterloo Records' insane parking lot show and got up early to watch Keane and Citizen Cope perform inside the W Hotel followed by an interview with Mumford and Sons and Edward Sharpe by Andy Langer and Bryan Beck of KGSR radio.

SXSW music preview: Top 5 day parties

We know how daunting the listing of South by Southwest (SXSW) parties can be so we waded through a gargantuan pile of invites and selected our top five day parties for you. Below is only a sampling of the hundreds of events planned next week when the music officially kicks off on Tuesday. We chose one day party to highlight through Saturday. Yes, SXSW events scheduled on Sunday, but if your calendar is as full as ours is, you are going to want to rest at the end of what promises to be a jam-packed week of great independent bands performing in Austin.
