Live music preview: Oh Snap Festival 4 stuffs lineup with Austin bands

This weekend we are abandoning our usual show preview modus operandi of listing multiple events in favor of a single festival review. Why? Our reasoning is simple. Oh Snap Festival might be the best thing that happened to Austin bands next to Free Week because they stuff the lineup with great local acts. In its fourth year, the benefit show that raises money for the Sergio Machado Memorial Scholarship at Southwestern University in Georgetown has chosen well. Live music review: Oh Snap! Benefit ends w/ power outage, Blackout Party Feb 10

In a bizarre twist, the Oh Snap Benefit ended Saturday evening with a downtown outage that knocked out power to portions of Sixth Street including the host venue, The Parish. The outage occurred around 11:30p.m. as Lauren Larson ofUme was tuning up her guitar in the green room for their headlining set. Once it was determined that power would not be restored immediately, it became apparent that Ume along with Smoke and Feathers, The Bang Bang Theodores and Superlitebike would not perform as scheduled.

Live music preview: Oh Snap Festival expands with Ume, T-Bird and Mother Falcon

Our first exposure to the Oh Snap Festival was also Examiner's first The Bright Light Social Hour show which is appropriate since the event organizers are friends with the band. This year the lineup has expanded to 50 bands from 18 last year. Some notable additions to the bill include Ume, T-Bird and the Breaks, and Mother Falcon. Attendees will also see local DJ favorite,  Orion along with Freshmillions who performed at the Austin City Limits Festival for the first time last summer.
