Live music preview: Top Free Week shows you should not miss this weekend
When Austin music fans attend music festivals South by Southwest, Austin City Limits and Fun Fun Fun Fest there are always a few local bands on the bill. Free Week is an entirely different sort of animal. Instead of a smattering of Austin bands amid a schedule laden with national acts and thousands of out-of-town visitors, the event is nearly exclusive to performers hailing from the "Live Music Capital." Live music preview: The Boxing Lesson to celebrate release of new album Thursday
One of our favorite local acts, The Boxing Lesson (TBL) are set to celebrate today's release of their long-awaited new album, "Big Hits" on Thursday at The Mohawk. It has actually been five years since Paul Waclawsky and Jaylinn Davidson who make up two thirds of this amazing indie, psych-rock band, put out a full-length album. There have been obstacles along the way like losing their drummer to a drug bust, Paul getting injured in a car accident and an amicable split with their manager. Live music review: Oh Snap! Benefit ends w/ power outage, Blackout Party Feb 10
In a bizarre twist, the Oh Snap Benefit ended Saturday evening with a downtown outage that knocked out power to portions of Sixth Street including the host venue, The Parish. The outage occurred around 11:30p.m. as Lauren Larson ofUme was tuning up her guitar in the green room for their headlining set. Once it was determined that power would not be restored immediately, it became apparent that Ume along with Smoke and Feathers, The Bang Bang Theodores and Superlitebike would not perform as scheduled.
