Live music review: American Authors, Mowgli's packed Mohawk for Honda Civic Tour

On the surface, American Authors appear to be like most bands that appeal to the teen music fan set and to some extent that view is correct. The Brooklyn-based band that headlined theHonda Civic Tour at Austin's Mohawk last night goes deeper than that though. In fact, the band has impressive credentials as the members met at the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston in 2006 before launching their music career as Blue Pages. Live music review: Black Moth Super Rainbow added to mystery at Mohawk Tuesday

Not much is known about the members of Black Moth Super Rainbow (BMSR) from Pittsburgh apart from the fact the group makes spectacular music. The enigmatic band's show at Mohawk last night drew hundreds of fans who arrived early to get the best vantage point to watch the show Tuesday. The music, however, was not a mystery to the legion of fans that came out. The Hood Internet opened the concert with some throwback dance-party DJ mashups that included a nod to LCD Soundsystem.

Live music review: The Impossibles returned for sold-out Mohawk gigs and taping

What should music fans expect from a band that has not played in 10 years yet sold-out two nights at The Mohawk? When The Impossibles play, a raucous mosh pit, lots of sweat and good times ensues. The former punk, reggae, ska, rock fusion band played in front of capacity crowds Saturday and Sunday evening after hype about the event reached fever pitch four months from the reunion announcement. Tickets sold-out within hours.

An amazing triple bill on Saturday with Nakia Reynoso of TV show, "The Voice", SXSW performing artist, Akina Adderley and the consistently amazing, Hard Proof playing original Afrobeat songs joined forces at The Mohawk for an extended dance party. Live music review: Parker Griggs' new Radio Moscow lineup rocked The Mohawk

After learning Radio Moscow front man, Parker Griggs was arriving in Austin with a new rhythm section in tow, we were a bit concerned the show would not measure up to their great set at Austin Psych Fest last year. Griggs mentioned early in the set they had only been playing together two weeks. Although there were a few rough patches early on, overall the performance was mind-meltingly, crowd-pleasing.

Live music preview: Radio Moscow tonight at The Mohawk with Graveyard

One aspect of music festivals we love is the opportunity to find new bands we have not had the pleasure of listening to before. At last year's Austin Psych Fest, that band was Radio Moscow who delivered a scintillating performanceon the small Stage 2 at  Seaholm Power Plant along Town Lake. The unusual visuals projected onto the screen behind the band enhanced the experience considerably. We are excited the Los Angeles-based Iowa rockers are returning to town to play  The Mohawk tonight.
