The third annual Heartbreaker Banquet sponsored by Electric Lady Studios and Robot Fondue at Willie Nelson's Luck, Texas ranch Thursday during SXSW featured a surprise appearance by the red-headed stranger himself. The event held during South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival has featured Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Gary Clark Jr., Father John Misty and Shovels and Rope in the last couple of years. This year's lineup was possibly Heartbreaker Banquet's finest as The Wild FeathersLuciusShakey Graves and Lucas Nelson and the Promise of the Real performed in front of approximately 1,000 fans at the intimate venue. Kong Screen Printing is participating in Springboard: Deep East Studio Showcase Saturday

Kong Screen Printing who have gained exposure recently for their hit "Welcome to Austin" t-shirt design is participating in Springboard this Saturday at Artpost in East Austin. Springboard is a free, open studio event that includes some of the larger studio complexes in Deep East Austin including Artpost (event location), Bay 6 Studios, Big Medium, Pump Project, Pigoata Studios (next to Bay 6) and the Pump Project Satellite. Our next event is right around the corner, this Saturday, May 5 from 2-9 p.m.

Springboard is a great opportunity to see art and meet artists. Whether you are a first-time visitor, a returning patron, or an art-o-phile who needs their studio-viewing fix before the annual East Austin Studio Tour in November. Browse the studios, experience the huge variety of art, be inspired by the creativity of each unique space.

The tour is self-guided. The locations are in close proximity to one another so consider bringing your bike for easy travel! Delicious, gourmet Coolhaus Ice Cream Sandwiches will be available for guests!

Kong Screen Printing was founded by Bruce Braden who entered into a partnership with artist and Fine Art print maker, Ryan Burkhart last year. The partnership has already paid huge dividends as the pair produced a hit t-shirt design just before the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive, Film and Music Festival began this past March. The now infamous design has been customized for a local bar, been purchased by folks across the country and struck a nerve among Austin residents all at the same time.

The T-Shirt everyone is talking about

While Bruce and Ryan have fun producing hand-made, clever t-shirt designs, Kong also produces studio quality prints for visual artists and their patrons who demand high-quality, professional prints and reproductions. Kong also prints promotional items for clients like custom t-shirts, beer coozies, postcards and more. They can likely figure out how to print on any surface you want. The fact that they are nice, friendly folks is an added bonus for their clients.
Stop by Springboard on Saturday and meet the Ryan (Bruce is out of town). Bruce and Ryan also have a penchant for producing great micro brews. There may even be some kind beers laying around the studio to sample on Saturday. Come out and see for yourself and join the after party following Springboard. You can RSVP on Facebook here.

The Mill next door (now connected to Artpost by gates) will have art, live music and will host “Springboard After Dark” featuring DJ Bobby West, Joanna Barberra, Radiola and Those Nights participating in an art jam until 11p.m..

Live music review: Parker Griggs' new Radio Moscow lineup rocked The Mohawk

After learning Radio Moscow front man, Parker Griggs was arriving in Austin with a new rhythm section in tow, we were a bit concerned the show would not measure up to their great set at Austin Psych Fest last year. Griggs mentioned early in the set they had only been playing together two weeks. Although there were a few rough patches early on, overall the performance was mind-meltingly, crowd-pleasing.
