Weekend music preview: Polyphonic Spree, Sam Pace CD Release, Mellowfest, Old Crow Medincine Show, Wheeler Brothers




One would think with summer here and students headed home for the break that things would slow down in "The Live Music Capital of the World" but one would be wrong. This weekend is a perfect example. There are a couple of big shows out at the Austin360 Amphitheater; Rascall Flats with Sheryl Crow followed by Kiss and Def Leopard. Live music preview: Dark Side of the Rainbow - A Pink Floyd Experience



Friday night at Austin Music Hall a special, live performance of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" will take place featuring some of Austin's best local musicians. The show which benefits Anthropos Arts merges inspiration from the classic film, The Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd's epic album. The event will open with Christian Bland and the Revelators channeling a concert from the UFO Club (see video on left) circa 1966 when Floyd was led by original vocalist, Syd Barrett. Live music preview: Fear and Loathing in Hotel Vegas and Hacienda at Blackheart

Austin music fans should feel like it is Christmas even though it is middle of summer because there is not one, but two free shows of note this week. The first happens tonight when Fear and Loathing in Hotel Vegas takes over not just HV, but the Volstead Lounge next door. The second, is Hacienda on Friday at new Rainey Street bar, Blackheart. The Hotel Vegas event will feature Christian Bland of the Black Angels with his band, the Revelators.
